Aya Sawada (Madrid, 1986) is a photographer based in Berlin. She photographs clearly defined and everyday subjects from an otherworldly viewpoint, as if floating around in them in an attempt to capture the veil between two worlds. The result is a fragmented narrative in her works, always keen to present a dramatic context and storyline in which she has placed her 'characters'. Although seemingly hard-edged and austere on the surface,her works can also be seen to playfully express the colorful inner lives of her subjects, thereby creating a further sense of intimacy between the photograph and the viewer.
